White Water Kayaking
The Katahdin region has some of the best kayaking on the east coast. Rip Gorge, the Cribworks, and Big A are just some of the sections of the West Branch of the Penobscot River that have been entertaining kayakers for years. Consistant water flows from McKay Station during the summer, makes the West Branch a great place to kayak. Check out what Maine Kayak has to offer both beginner and advanced kayakers. The Big Moose Inn is only a few miles from the West Branch and offers Inn rooms, suites, cabins, lean-to's, and tentsites to paddlers.
Lake Kayaking
Kayaking is becoming an increasingly popular activitiy for visitors to the Katahdin Region. The Big Moose has several kayaks as well as paddle boards that can be rented by the hour or day. Spend a morning, afternoon or evening paddling on Millinocket or Ambejejus Lakes that surround the Big Moose.
